French Suze Carafe

This vintage French Suze carafe represents authentic bistro culture from mid-20th century France. Originally designed as a water pitcher for diluting pastis and other anise-flavored aperitifs, this glass vessel bears the distinctive embossed branding of Suze, the renowned gentian-based aperitif established in 1889.

The clear glass construction features raised lettering spelling "SUZE" across the lower section, with "GENTIANE" visible beneath, referencing the yellow gentian root that provides the aperitif's characteristic bitter taste. The classic bistro form displays a bulbous body that transitions to a slender neck with a flared rim. Decorative shell motifs appear embossed on the upper portion, while horizontal bands accent the base.

Standing 21.5cm high (8.5 inches), this carafe demonstrates quality French glassware craftsmanship typical of its era. The piece shows good condition with normal signs of age and use consistent with its bistro origins. The functional design includes a wide mouth for easy filling and pouring.

This authentic French Suze carafe serves as both a functional serving piece and collectible representation of traditional French aperitif culture, suitable for vintage barware collections or decorative display.
