French School Map Poster
Produced for classroom use in French schools, this double-sided French school map poster covers two related geographic themes: one side devoted to agriculture (France Agriculture), the other to fishing and livestock farming (France Peche et Elevage). Published by Editions Rossignol Montmorillon (Vienne), these wall maps were standard teaching aids in French primary and secondary schools from the mid-20th century onward, numbered as part of a coordinated series (N 11 and N 12). The Rossignol editions are among the most recognized names in French educational cartography.
Each side is printed in a clear, multi-color scheme with distinct regional zones. The agriculture side uses orange, yellow, pink, light green and dark green to distinguish large-scale farming regions, diverse crops, vineyards, natural meadows, and forests. Crop names are printed directly onto the map in bold black type, with wine appellations and market towns highlighted in red. The fishing and livestock side uses a separate color code to identify cattle farming, sheep raising, poultry, horse breeding, and low-yield grazing areas, with coastal fishing ports marked by scaled circles indicating catch tonnage. Both sides include a small inset map of Corsica. Text and geographic labels are entirely in French. The map surface appears clean with no visible tears; a small corner crease is noted on one edge as shown in the photos.
The poster measures 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5". It is printed on semi-rigid coated paper stock typical of Rossignol school series production.
A practical and graphic piece of mid-century French print culture, this French school map poster works well framed as wall decor in a study, kitchen or dining room, and is sought by collectors of French ephemera, cartography enthusiasts, and vintage school material.
