French Industrial Map Poster
A double-sided French industrial map poster produced for classroom use, this is a period educational aid published by Editions Rossignol of Montmorillon (Vienne), a well-known French publisher of school geography materials. One side displays "France Industrie" (map No. 6) and the reverse shows "France Energie" (map No. 5), making this a genuinely informative French industrial map poster covering two major geographic themes in a single sheet.
The Industrie side maps the distribution of French manufacturing across the country, marking cities such as Dunkerque, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Strasbourg and Paris with annotated industries including metallurgy, textiles, automobiles, chemicals, rubber and naval construction. Industrial regions are shaded in amber and brown tones, with iron ore and potash deposits indicated by a color-coded legend. The Energie reverse charts coal basins (Nord-Pas-de-Calais at 50%, Lorraine at 21%, Massif Central at 20%, Pyrenees at 18%), hydroelectric dams, thermal power stations, atomic plants, petroleum at Parentis, and natural gas at Lacq, all rendered in clear graphic symbols against a yellow base map with blue river networks. The printing is clean with vivid reds, blues and grays, and text is fully in French.
The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm (35.4" x 29.5") as stated by the seller. The sheet appears to be in good used condition consistent with former school use -- some handling evident but the printed surface reads clearly throughout with no major tears observed.
A document of its era, this French industrial map poster records the industrial and energy geography of France at a specific historical moment, useful for researchers, educators, collectors of vintage cartography, or as graphic wall decor in a study or office setting.
