French School Map Poster France

A double-sided French school map poster France, produced by Editions Rossignol of Montmorillon (Vienne) for classroom use. One side shows France Routes et Voies Aeriennes (roads and air routes, numbered N 8), the other France Chemins de Fer (railways, numbered N 7). These Rossignol educational wall charts were standard issue in French state schools from the 1950s through the 1970s, making them a well-documented category of French school ephemera.

The Routes and Air Routes side displays the national road network in red, autoroutes in dark red, and air routes as blue directional arrows radiating from Le Bourget airport near Paris, indicating international destinations including New York, London, Berlin, Cairo, and Dakar. The railway side maps diesel, steam and electric traction lines across France, with major stations and junctions clearly marked. An inset diagram on the railway side shows the layout of the grandes gares parisiennes. Both sides use a clear two-color scheme with amber and ochre shading to indicate elevation zones above 500m and 1000m. The printing is clean with vivid color retention. The cartographic publisher is identified as Imp. Michard, Paris. No chips, tears or significant damage are visible in the photos, though light handling wear consistent with classroom use is expected.

The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5" as stated by the seller. This large format was designed for wall mounting in a classroom setting.
