French Educational School Map Poster

Published by Editions Rossignol of Montmorillon (Vienne), this double-sided French educational school map poster was produced for classroom use in France. One side displays map No. 12, titled "Est du Bassin Parisien" (Eastern Paris Basin), and the reverse shows map No. 11, "La Loire Moyenne" (The Middle Loire). Rossignol was one of the leading French publishers of pedagogical wall maps throughout the mid-to-late twentieth century, and their maps remain highly sought after by collectors and interior decorators alike.

Each side is printed in a clear, colour-coded topographic style with elevation bands ranging from lowland green through to highland brown and orange tones. The maps show river systems, regional agricultural zones (wheat, sugar beet, sheep, cattle), textile industries, and major cities including Paris, Reims, Amiens, Tours, Le Mans, Orleans and Angers. Red dots of varying sizes indicate population thresholds for cities. Text labels in both black and red identify industries, agricultural products and geographic regions. The cartography is precise and readable, typical of Rossignol school production. The surface is printed on thick paper or light card stock.

The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5". It is a double-sided wall map, with map No. 11-12 cross-referenced on each edge, indicating it was part of a numbered series designed to tile together for classroom display. Overall condition is used, consistent with former classroom use, with light handling wear expected.
