French Educational Map Poster
A double-sided French educational map poster produced for classroom use, numbered No. 15 and No. 16 in a geographic series published by Editions Rossignol, Montmorillon, Vienne, France. One side presents "Amerique du Nord Economique" (Economic North America) and the reverse shows "Asie Economique" (Economic Asia). These French educational map posters were standard classroom equipment in French schools from the mid-20th century, used to teach students about economic geography, natural resources, and trade routes across continents.
Each side is printed in full color with clearly labeled regions, cities, resource annotations, and trade route arrows. The North America side marks cities including New York, Chicago, Montreal, and Los Angeles, with resource labels such as petrole, houille, uranium, ble, and cuivre. Population density is shown through a color-coded legend ranging from uninhabited zones to densely populated areas. Export and import routes are indicated by directional arrows in red and black. The Asia side covers territory from Moscow and Bagdad east to Tokyo and Manila, annotating resources including petrole, houille, riz, coton, and caoutchouc. Both maps carry the scale reference and publisher imprint at the bottom margin. The poster appears in used condition consistent with school and display use, with a central vertical fold line visible on both sides.
The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5". This is a large-format wall map designed for classroom display and retains good legibility across both faces.
A practical decorative piece for map collectors, mid-century interior design, or anyone with an interest in vintage cartography and French print history. The double-sided format and Rossignol publisher attribution make it a documented example of French postwar educational printing.
