French Educational Map Poster
A double-sided French educational map poster produced by Cooperation Pedagogique Nalliers, based in Vienne, France. One side presents South America (Amerique du Sud) and the reverse presents North America (Amerique du Nord). These large-format school wall maps were standard classroom equipment in mid-20th century French schools, used to teach economic geography to students. The French Educational Map Poster format by Nalliers was widely distributed across the French national education system.
Each side is printed in a clear multi-colour scheme: land areas are shaded in graduated tones of pink and rose to indicate population density according to the legend (ranging from less than 1 person per km2 to over 100 per km2). Country names, capital cities, rivers, and key natural resources are labelled directly on the map in red and blue ink. Export and import trade routes are shown with directional arrows, with blue arrows indicating exports and red arrows indicating imports. Key commodities are named along the routes: coffee, rubber, cotton, petroleum, wheat, wool, and others. Cities such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco are marked with population-coded symbols. Railways are indicated by a dashed line system. The map is printed on heavy card stock with a linen-effect backing, typical of the Nalliers series.
The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5" as stated by the seller. The format is landscape orientation and designed for wall display. Some light age-related toning is visible on the surface, consistent with a used classroom item of this period.
A practical and visually informative piece of mid-20th century French pedagogical printing. Collectors of vintage maps, school ephemera, or Americana and South America cartography will find this a functional display item that retains strong graphic clarity.
