French Copper Cocotte Cast Iron Handles

A substantial French copper cocotte with cast iron handles, stamped "Made in France" on the body just below the lid rim. This type of wide, low-profile copper pot with dual loop handles was standard equipment in professional and domestic French kitchens from the late 19th through mid-20th century. The French copper cocotte form -- broad diameter relative to height -- was designed for braising, slow cooking and oven use, and this example follows that classic form closely.

The body is hammered copper with a warm, darkened patina showing heavy use over many decades. The exterior surface displays areas of oxidation ranging from deep amber to dark brown, with traces of verdigris visible near the handle mounts, consistent with age and authentic use. The two loop handles are cast iron, riveted to the body with visible iron rivets. The lid is copper with a matching cast iron bar handle, also riveted, and fits the pot with a close-lipped overlap edge. The seller notes the interior lining as "etamage inox" -- a stainless steel re-tinning, replacing the original tin lining at some point in the pot's life. This is a practical and durable interior finish.

Dimensions as stated: 28.5cm diameter x 13.2cm height (11.2" x 5.2"). Wall thickness is noted at 2mm, which is a solid gauge consistent with professional-grade French copper cookware. The lid adds additional height when fitted.
