French Butter Churn

This authentic French butter churn represents traditional dairy equipment from early-to-mid 20th century rural France. The functional kitchen implement demonstrates the heritage of home butter making with its complete mechanical system designed for churning cream into butter through manual operation.

The churn combines three distinct materials in its construction. A clear glass jar forms the main container, topped with substantial cast iron lid mechanism featuring decorative spoked wheel and pulley system. The intricate metalwork displays craftsmanship typical of French industrial design from this period. A wooden paddle with natural wood handle extends into the glass chamber, operated through the cast iron pulley assembly mounted above.

Standing 38cm in height (15 inches), this French butter churn dates to circa 1930-1950 and remains in very good condition considering its age. The glass jar shows no cracks, the cast iron exhibits authentic patina consistent with age, and the wooden paddle retains its smooth finish. All mechanical components appear complete and functional for operation.

This piece serves as both functional equipment and display item, representing an important aspect of French rural life and traditional food preparation methods.
