Veuve Clicquot champagne ice bucket
A Veuve Clicquot champagne ice bucket in polished aluminum, almost certainly produced for French restaurants, hotels and brasseries during the mid-twentieth century, when the grandes maisons de Champagne supplied their wholesale clients with branded service pieces as a matter of course. The cylindrical form, with its flared lip and twin cast ring handles, is a classic of French cafe and hotel silversmithing, here rendered in lightweight spun aluminum rather than silver plate.
The exterior carries the house's iconic VCP shield decal in black and warm amber, reading "Clicquot Champagne" above the anchor monogram and "Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin" along the lower orange ribbon banner. Engraved horizontal grooves run just below the rim and above the base, giving the silhouette a clean, graphic quality. The ring handles show a nicely aged patina that contrasts well with the bright body. A piece like this sits easily on a bar cart, a sideboard or a kitchen shelf, equally at home holding a bottle of wine on ice or a bunch of garden stems.
Condition and patina consistent with age. The interior shows light surface oxidation and minor scuffs typical of a piece that was actively used; the exterior decal is largely intact with one small area of edge lifting visible on one side.
Approx. 8.1 in tall (20.5 cm).
