Veuve Clicquot champagne ice bucket
A Veuve Clicquot champagne ice bucket in spun aluminium, made in France and dating probably to the 1960s based on the badge style and construction. Stamped seau a champagne in French restaurant and hotel trade terminology, this type of bucket was produced for the hospitality industry and supplied by the house of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin to French cafes, brasseries and hotels throughout the mid-twentieth century. The form is strictly functional, with no applied ornament beyond the brand badge.
The bucket is cylindrical with a slightly flared rim and a flat recessed base. The outer surface carries three turned grooves near the top and three near the bottom, a detail typical of French aluminium hollowware of this period. The side-mounted handles are cast aluminium with an oval knob and a loose ring, darkened with age. A large applied enamel or lacquered metal badge on the front reads CLICQUOT / VCP / CHAMPAGNE inside a black-edged ochre shield, with a banner beneath reading Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin in black script. The interior shows a faint embossed shield crest near the upper wall. The base is stamped MADE-IN-FRANCE in block capitals.
Normal age wear throughout. The outer surface shows scattered light scratches and uneven oxidation consistent with decades of use. The interior shows heavier circular scratching from ice and bottles, along with darkening near the base. The badge retains strong colour with minor edge lifting visible at the lower left corner. The handles show darker patina on the rings. 20cm high. Suited for display on a bar cart, console or open shelf, or used as a cooler for a single bottle of sparkling wine. This item is sold as a decorative collectible and has not been tested for food or beverage contact use.
