Moet Chandon champagne ice bucket
A Moet Chandon champagne ice bucket in silver-plated metal, made in France and stamped on the base "M.O.D Meaux Argit Made in France" -- a well-known French manufacturer of hotel and restaurant metalware based in Meaux, outside Paris. The seau a champagne, or champagne bucket, has long been one of the most theatrical objects on a French table, and this example carries the full Moet and Chandon livery: the engraved crown medallion, the bold house name, and the founding date Fonde en 1743.
The body is generously proportioned and finished to a bright mirror polish on the exterior, while the upper register carries a continuous band of embossed grapevines, leaves and hanging clusters in high relief. Two ring handles, each centered on a sculpted bunch of grapes, sit at either side. The branding is engraved directly into the metal in crisp, confident lettering. On a bar cart, a sideboard or a kitchen counter, the piece reads as both a functional wine cooler and a handsome piece of French hospitality culture.
Condition and patina consistent with age. The exterior polish remains strong and reflective; the interior shows the light brushing and minor surface speckling normal to a piece that has been used and cleaned. No dents, no repairs.
Approx. 7.9 in diameter (20 cm) -- the main dimension of this round bucket.
