Jean Pierre Viot Bowl
This handcrafted stoneware bowl represents the artistry of renowned French potter Jean Pierre Viot, created circa 1960 during the flourishing mid-century ceramics movement. The Jean Pierre Viot bowl exemplifies the studio pottery tradition that emerged in post-war France, combining functional form with artistic expression.
The piece displays a distinctive olive green glaze enriched with blue speckled patterns distributed across the surface. The wide, shallow form features gently sloping sides that curve naturally from rim to base. The glaze exhibits organic color variations and depth characteristic of the artist's technique, while the speckled effect creates visual movement throughout the interior surface.
Measuring 22.5cm in diameter by 4cm in height (8.9" x 1.6"), this substantial piece bears the artist's signature on the unglazed base. The bowl shows excellent vintage condition with natural glaze variations inherent to the handmade process. The exposed clay body visible on the base reveals the earthenware construction typical of Viot's work.
This signed piece serves equally well as a decorative accent or functional serving vessel, representing an important example of French mid-century studio ceramics for collectors of European pottery.
