Guy Degrenne Champagne Coupes Stainless Steel Set of 6 French Vintage 2610261

Guy Degrenne champagne coupes stainless steel

A complete set of six Guy Degrenne champagne coupes stainless steel, made in France from INOX 18/8 -- the high-grade, nickel-rich alloy long favored by French professional kitchens and hotel service. Guy Degrenne, the celebrated Norman silversmith who democratized quality table metal in postwar France, gave these coupes the clean, unfussy proportions that defined French mid-century tableware: a wide, gently shallow bowl perched on a slender cylindrical stem rising from a smooth domed foot. The coupe -- originally a French banquet form -- suits both champagne and, as the maker intended, a neat scoop of ice cream or sorbet.

Each piece carries the stamped GD monogram inside a circle on the base, followed by the engraved legend INOX 18 8 MADE IN FRANCE, exactly as seen in the photographs. The polished interior catches and throws light in the way only hand-finished metal does, giving the table a warm, silvery animation that glassware rarely matches. Six coupes is a proper entertaining set, equally at home lined up on a bar cart, clustered on a holiday table, or displayed on a kitchen shelf as a graphic piece of French modernist design.

Condition and patina consistent with age. Light surface scratching is visible inside several bowls, as expected from decades of use and stacking; the stems and bases are solid and stable.

Each coupe measures approx. 3.3 in across the bowl (8.5 cm), matching the maker's original specification for this classic coupe form.
