French Wooden Garden Trug

A classic French wooden garden trug, used traditionally for gathering vegetables, herbs and cut flowers from the kitchen garden. This French wooden garden trug follows the standard trug form that has been produced in rural France for generations, built for practical daily use rather than decoration. The bentwood handle arches cleanly over the open rectangular body, allowing the basket to be carried comfortably by hand.

The body is constructed from thin planks of pine or similar softwood, showing clear straight grain and natural knots throughout. The wood has aged to a warm amber-honey tone across all surfaces. The angled trapezoidal sides give the basket its characteristic profile, wider at the top than the base. The bentwood handle is formed from a strip of lighter, finer-grained wood, steam-bent into its arched shape and fixed at both ends into the side walls. Small nail or brad fixings are visible at the joints. The interior floor shows some natural darkening and minor surface marks consistent with use, but the structure remains fully sound with no splits or breaks observed.

Dimensions as stated by the seller: 43.5cm x 28.5cm x 23cm / 17.1" x 11.2" x 9.1" (length x width x height excluding handle). The handle adds further height above the basket body.
