French Vintage Cutting Board

A well-used French vintage cutting board of the type found in rural farmhouse kitchens across France throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This French vintage cutting board was a daily working tool, and its surface tells that story clearly through decades of accumulated knife marks and patina.

The board is cut from a single piece of solid wood, medium-toned and warm in color, with a distinctly worn surface covered in fine criss-crossing knife scratches accumulated through heavy use. The upper section features a shaped profile with two curved lobes flanking a central rectangular handle tab, a form typical of French provincial bread and charcuterie boards. The handle tab has a drilled hanging hole, which allowed the board to be hung on a kitchen wall or hook when not in use. The edges show natural wear consistent with age, and the wood has darkened slightly in areas of heaviest contact. No cracks or splits are visible in the photos. The reverse side appears smooth and undecorated. No maker's mark or stamp is visible in any of the provided images.

Dimensions as stated: 24cm x 40cm x 2.5cm / 9.4" x 15.7" x 1". The generous surface area and substantial thickness confirm this is a large working board, well above the scale of a decorative piece.
