French Wicker Laundry Basket

A vintage French wicker laundry basket of oval form, hand-woven from natural rattan in the traditional manner seen throughout French domestic households of the mid-20th century. This French wicker laundry basket is the low, wide type commonly used for carrying and sorting laundry, and it retains all the structural integrity of its original construction.

The weave is tight and consistent across the sides and base, worked in a natural honey-toned rattan that has aged to a warm amber-brown. The rim is finished with a multi-strand braided border, and the basket features two small looped handles on opposing ends, also woven in twisted rattan. The base incorporates a single flat wooden runner set lengthwise along the underside, a practical detail that protected the weave from floor contact and is still intact. The interior shows the characteristic oval spiral weave of French basket-making. General wear is consistent with age and use -- minor looseness in a few wicker strands is visible -- but the overall structure remains solid and functional.

Dimensions: approximately 50cm x 35cm x 18cm (not including handles) / 19.7" x 13.8" x 7.1". These measurements are provided by the seller and exclude the height of the handles.
