French vintage zinc flower buckets
A set of three French vintage zinc flower buckets of the kind that once lined the floors and shelves of neighbourhood fleuristes across France, holding cut stems in cool water from morning market to closing time. Formed from sheet zinc with lapped and soldered seams visible on the interior walls, these tapered cylindrical pots are a fine example of the practical galvanized metalware that was standard equipment in French florist and horticultural trade through much of the twentieth century.
Each bucket carries a beautifully uneven surface where the zinc has mottled and shifted in tone over the years, ranging from warm silvery grey to deeper blue-grey pooling, giving every piece its own distinct character while the three read handsomely as a group. One pot retains the ghost of an old adhesive label on its exterior, a small trace of working life. Whether arranged together on a kitchen shelf, a mantelpiece, or a farmhouse entry table, or used individually to hold dried botanicals, seasonal stems or kitchen utensils, these buckets bring an easy, unpretentious Parisian market atmosphere to any interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age. The interiors show rust on the iron base discs, and the exteriors display natural oxidation and surface mottling throughout; all well within the expected character of well-used vintage zinc.
Each bucket measures approximately 6.5 in wide x 8.3 in tall (16.5 x 21 cm).
