French Vintage Bread Board

A well-used French vintage bread board of the type found in rural French kitchens and farmhouses throughout the late 19th and early 20th century. This large wooden board was designed for daily bread preparation and slicing, and shows the kind of honest wear that comes from decades of active kitchen use. The French vintage bread board tradition produced pieces like this in large formats to accommodate the long loaves typical of French baking.

The board is cut from a single piece of solid wood, showing a warm mid-brown tone that has deepened with age and use. The surface carries extensive knife marks and wear patterns accumulated over many years of service, giving the face a softly textured, patinated appearance. The upper edge is shaped into a distinctive double-arch or crown form, with a flat rectangular handle rising from the centre, pierced with a small round hanging hole. This carved profile, visible clearly in the close-up photo, is characteristic of French provincial woodwork. The corners of the rectangular body are slightly rounded. No maker's stamp or mark is visible on either face.

The board measures 30cm x 46cm x 2.5cm, which converts to approximately 11.8" x 18.1" x 1". This is a generous working size, noticeably larger than most modern boards, making it well suited as both a functional surface and a display piece.
