French Vintage Wood Coat Rack

A French vintage wood coat rack dating from the early to mid 20th century, wall-mounted and designed for hallway use. The piece features four turned wooden pegs arranged along a central cylindrical rail, with two small iron hanging loops fixed to the back of the rail for wall installation. The form is consistent with French provincial workshop production from the interwar period.

The rack is turned from a warm honey-toned hardwood, most likely beech, with incised black-painted ring details decorating both the central rail and the base of each peg. The four pegs are individually turned with a bulbous acorn-shaped tip and a narrow neck connecting to the rail. The surface shows a natural aged patina with minor wear consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the photos. The black ring detailing adds a graphic contrast to the warm wood tone and reflects the restrained decorative vocabulary of French provincial woodturning.

The rack measures approximately 48cm long / 19" in total length. The individual pegs extend roughly 7cm / 2.75" from the rail. These dimensions make it a practical wall piece suited to a hallway, bathroom or bedroom.

Mounted on a wall, this rack functions well as both a practical coat and hat hanger and as a display piece.
