French Vintage Round Bread Board

A large French vintage round bread board in solid pine, cut from a single plank on the front face and constructed from three planks on the reverse, held together by a horizontal batten. This type of French vintage round bread board was a standard fixture in rural French kitchens and bakeries, used daily for kneading, slicing and presenting bread. The form is classic: a wide circular surface with a short, narrow handle terminating in a rounded knob, designed for hanging on a wall hook when not in use.

The front surface shows visible wood grain running vertically across the full width, with numerous natural pine knots of varying sizes distributed across the face. The surface carries the honest patina of long use: a warm amber-brown tone, a network of fine knife marks and scratches from years of cutting, and scattered dark spots typical of aged pine. The edges are rounded and worn, consistent with extended daily handling. The reverse side reveals the board's construction clearly, with three horizontal planks joined and braced by a central batten. A faint handwritten inscription is visible on the reverse batten, though the text is not fully legible in the photos. The handle shows some surface wear at the knob tip. No cracks, splits or repairs are observed.

The circular board measures 52cm in diameter / 20.5 inches. Total length including handle is 64cm / 25.2 inches. Thickness is 1.5cm / 0.6 inches.

With its generous scale and well-worn surface, this French vintage round bread board works equally well as a functional kitchen board or as a decorative wall piece in a farmhouse or rustic interior. Its large diameter and aged pine character make it well suited for use as a charcuterie or cheese display board.
