French vintage menu board
This French vintage menu board represents authentic mid-20th century commercial heritage from France's traditional shop culture. Dating from circa 1950, this Prix Courant board was designed to display daily offerings and prices in French establishments, serving butchers, grocers, and restaurants throughout the period.
The board features a distinctive red header band with white lettering reading "PRIX COURANT" alongside decorative motifs depicting produce and culinary elements. Below the header, the white surface displays organized columns and lined sections for systematic price listing. The construction includes a practical metal chain attachment for wall mounting, characteristic of period French commercial signage.
Measuring 40cm x 30cm (15.7" x 11.8"), this substantial piece shows good preservation considering its age and commercial use. The reusable surface material, appearing to be durable plastic or coated composite, allowed repeated writing and erasing of prices. Minor age-related wear is visible on the back surface, consistent with decades of practical use in French commerce.
This authentic French vintage menu board offers collectors and decorators a genuine piece of mid-century commercial history, suitable for kitchen display or restaurant decor themes.
