French vintage champagne coupes
A complete set of eight French vintage champagne coupes in 18/10 stainless steel, stamped on the base with the maker's mark LETANG-REMY INOX 18/10 in a neat rectangular cartouche. Letang-Remy was a well-regarded French manufacturer of professional-grade tableware, supplying hotels, brasseries and private households through much of the mid-twentieth century. The coupe -- la coupe a champagne -- was the favored vessel for Champagne in France from the Belle Epoque through the 1970s, and remains closely linked to the theatre of the champagne tower.
Each coupe features a wide, generously proportioned bowl with a bright mirror finish inside and out, carried on a slim cylindrical stem above a stepped, concentric base that has an almost architectural quality. The set stacks naturally into a classic pyramid, as the first photo shows, which makes it as much a centerpiece as a set of glasses. On a bar cart, a sideboard, or a holiday table, these eight pieces present with quiet confidence. The 18/10 grade steel means the finish is durable and the metal non-reactive.
Condition and patina consistent with age. One stem shows some loss of its chrome plating toward the base, visible in the close-up photo; the bowls retain their strong mirror polish throughout.
Each coupe measures approximately 3.1 in across the base (8 cm).
