French Brass Photo Frame Glass

A French brass photo frame glass of the type produced in France during the late 19th to early 20th century, designed to hold a photograph between two panes of beveled clear glass held upright by an easel-style brass stand. The French brass photo frame glass format was a popular format for portrait photographs during the Belle Epoque period, found in bourgeois households across France.

The frame consists of two rectangular panes of thick, beveled clear glass — the beveling is clearly visible along all four edges and gives the frame its characteristic optical depth. A cast brass ribbon bow ornament is mounted at the top center, detailed with folded ribbon ends and a central knot, showing the patina and surface oxidation consistent with age. The brass stand is of the classic easel type: a central vertical rod connects to a flat horizontal bracket at the top that grips the glass, with an angled support leg extending to the rear and terminating in a small ball foot at the base. Two ball feet stabilize the front base bracket. The brass throughout shows a greenish-gold patina with areas of darker oxidation, consistent with genuine age and use. A small mark or stamp is visible on the lower base bracket in one photo, though it is not fully legible.

The glass panes measure approximately 9cm x 16.5cm / 3.5" x 6.5". Overall standing height with the bow ornament is approximately 20cm / 7.9". The frame holds a photograph of approximately 9cm x 16.5cm / 3.5" x 6.5".
