Handbuilt in the slab construction method, this French studio pottery tray bears all the hallmarks of individual artistic production: irregular walls, hand-scored edges, and a deliberately uneven rim reinforced with a dark grey-black slip or engobe. The piece reads clearly as the work of an independent ceramic artist rather than a factory or production studio, consistent with the French artisanal pottery tradition.

The exterior is left in an unglazed terracotta body, ranging from sandy ochre to warm russet tones, with visible surface texture from hand-working. The rim edges are finished in a dense charcoal-grey slip applied by hand, giving the tray a bold graphic border. The interior presents a layered glaze treatment: the side walls show a pale cream base with drips and streaks of copper green, while the floor of the tray is covered in a deep green and near-black matte-to-satin glaze with visible crawling, bubbling and surface variation. This kind of deliberate glaze complexity is characteristic of wood-fired or raku-adjacent studio work. The corners show the hand-joined construction clearly. No maker's stamp or signature is visible in the provided photos.

The tray measures approximately 40cm x 18 to 19.5cm with a depth of 7.5cm, which converts to roughly 15.7" x 7.1" to 7.7" x 3". These dimensions make it a substantial piece, well-suited to display use. The seller notes the interior glaze work as the focal point of the piece.
