French Studio Pottery Cups Set
A set of nine French studio pottery cups set in wheel-thrown stoneware, almost certainly produced in a small French atelier during the 1970s or early 1980s, when studio ceramics enjoyed a strong revival across provincial France. The form is a classic beaker shape -- gently flared at the rim, tapering toward an unglazed foot -- that suits coffee, tisane or wine equally well at a rustic table.
Each cup carries a matte iron-amber glaze that shifts from warm ochre and golden brown on the lower body to a deeper, almost chocolate tone inside the rim and interior. No two cups read exactly alike: the kiln has pulled some cooler and more silvery-grey, others into a richer amber, which is precisely what gives a hand-fired set its appeal on a table. The raw, speckled clay foot visible in the fifth photo confirms stoneware construction and is typical of French craft production of this period. The cups nest neatly inside one another for easy storage or display.
Condition and patina consistent with age. Light surface wear and minor glaze variation across the set, as expected from decades of use; no chips or cracks noted.
Each cup measures approx. 3.75 in tall (9.5 cm).
