The pichet -- the classic French serving pitcher -- anchors the set, accompanied by twelve matching small cups in a warm palette of ochre, amber and toasted brown. This kind of stoneware service was a familiar presence on the French farmhouse table, used for cider, wine or water at everyday gatherings, and examples like this are sought today for both use and display.
The pitcher is wheel-thrown, with a distinctly shaped body: a rounded base rising to a long, gently flared neck with an angled spout and a sturdy loop handle. Fine horizontal throwing rings run the full length of the body, giving it an understated graphic texture. The glaze is a soft, matte ochre with warmer amber pooling toward the base. The twelve cups share the same form -- slightly tapered, open-topped -- and vary subtly in tone from pale golden brown to a deeper chocolate amber, as is natural with hand-glazed studio ware.
