French Silverplate Champagne Ice Bucket
A matched pair of French silverplate champagne ice buckets dating to the 1950s, comprising one larger bottle cooler and one smaller ice bucket, both made in the Art Deco style that remained popular in French hotel and restaurant service well into the postwar decades. The French silverplate champagne ice bucket form seen here was a standard fixture of grand cafe and brasserie tableware during this period.
Each piece is constructed in silverplated metal with a polished upper body transitioning to a satin-finish lower section, creating a two-tone effect that is clearly visible across all photos. The buckets feature cast scroll handles on both sides, formed as volute scrolls with acanthus-leaf detailing at the base — a design element consistent with French Art Deco silverware of the mid-twentieth century. Close inspection of the handle detail in the fourth photo shows some tarnishing and patina consistent with age and use, which is honest and expected on vintage silver plate of this era. The interior of the larger bucket, visible in the overhead shot, shows oxidation and light surface wear at the base, consistent with decades of use. No maker's mark or hallmark is clearly legible in the provided photos, though the quality of casting suggests professional hotel-grade manufacture.
The larger bucket measures 19.5cm tall / 7.7" and the smaller measures 13cm tall / 5.1". Width across handles is not specified but estimated at approximately 24cm / 9.4" for the large and 17cm / 6.7" for the small based on proportions visible in the photos.
Sold as a set of two, these buckets work well as bar accessories, table centerpieces or display objects in a period-style interior. The size difference makes them suited to bottle service and ice service respectively, as was traditional French practice.
