French Silverplate Champagne Bucket

Made by St Medard, a French silverplate manufacturer known for hotel and restaurant ware, this French silverplate champagne bucket represents the classic style of mid-20th century French table service. Marked on the base with three stamped hallmarks: the maker's cartouche bearing the initials SM with a small symbol, the name St Medard in an elongated rectangle, and a separate stamp reading 15 -- likely indicating a silver plate thickness or catalogue reference number.

The body is cylindrical with a slight taper toward the base, fabricated in polished silverplate over a base metal. Four engraved horizontal line bands appear near the upper third and again near the lower third of the exterior, a motif typical of Art Deco-influenced French hotel ware from the 1940s to 1960s. Two flat tab handles are fixed symmetrically at the rim, with a stepped geometric profile consistent with the period. The interior shows use-related patina, light scratching, and some darkening at the base, visible in the overhead photo. The exterior retains a good level of polish with minor surface wear. The inner base shows a worn protective disc or coating, consistent with age and regular use.
