French silver plated champagne bucket
A classic French silver plated champagne bucket of the kind found in brasseries and well-appointed homes across France from the mid-twentieth century onward. The seau a champagne -- the traditional French champagne bucket -- was a fixture of celebratory dining, equally at home on a white-linen restaurant table or a sideboard set for entertaining. The body is silver plated over what appears to be a copper base, with the lower third wrapped in a tight horizontal ribbing that adds both visual weight and grip. Two ring handles on shaped circular mounts sit at opposing sides, functional and cleanly detailed.
The upper body carries a high mirror polish that still reflects strongly, giving the piece genuine presence on a bar cart, drinks trolley or console. The underside bears a small stamped mark within a rectangular cartouche -- visible in the photos -- which suggests production by a European silverplate house. Today it works beautifully as a wine or champagne chiller, a vessel for flowers or greenery, or simply as a handsome object on a shelf.
Condition and patina consistent with age. Two visible tarnish marks on the upper exterior body, shown clearly in the photos; light wear and surface scratching to the base and interior, all of which speak to genuine use over the decades.
Approx. 8.1 in tall (20.5 cm).
