French Silver Plated Champagne Ice Bucket Vintage Two Handles 20102623

French silver plated champagne bucket

A handsome French silver plated champagne bucket of the classic seau a champagne form, the kind that has graced French dining tables and hotel service trolleys for well over a century. Gently tapered from base to rim, the bucket carries two elegant loop handles in the restrained style favored by French silversmiths from the mid-twentieth century onward. The exterior wears silver plate over what the patina reveals to be a copper body beneath, a construction common in quality French hotel and restaurant ware of the postwar decades.

The proportions are well balanced, wide enough to chill a standard bottle comfortably, and the interior is a plain polished metal that wipes clean easily. The loop handles are cast with a quiet, almost sculptural curve that feels distinctly French in its understatement. A piece like this works equally well as a functioning wine cooler on a bar cart or sideboard, or as a planter for a trailing ivy or a gathering of tall stems. French silver plate of this type was produced in quantity by specialist firms around Lyon and Paris to supply the hospitality trade, and surviving examples in this condition are increasingly sought after by American collectors drawn to European table culture.

Condition and patina consistent with age. The silver plating shows light surface scratches on the upper body and some wear along the rim and at the handle mounts, all entirely normal for a piece that has seen genuine table use.

Approximate height: 7.9 in (20 cm).
