French pottery mustard pot
Provincial French kitchenware from the late 19th or early 20th century, this traditional French pottery mustard pot displays the distinctive amber ochre glaze characteristic of rural ceramic workshops. Such vessels served utilitarian purposes in French households, storing condiments and preserves with their practical wide-mouth design.
The pot exhibits a classic bulbous form with rolled rim and substantial foot, crafted from local terracotta clay. The golden ochre glaze covers the upper portion while the lower section remains unglazed, showing natural clay tones with subtle color variations. Visible iron spots and firing marks throughout the surface indicate traditional kiln firing methods typical of regional French pottery.
The piece measures approximately 14cm in height (5.5 inches) with proportional width suitable for tabletop use. The substantial ceramic walls and traditional construction reflect the sturdy functionality valued in French country pottery of this period.
An authentic example of French provincial ceramics, suitable for rustic kitchen displays or as part of a collection of traditional European pottery. The warm ochre tones complement country French or farmhouse decorative schemes.
