Vintage French Oil Painting Mountain Lake Landscape Signed Framed 03112614

French oil painting mountain lake

A signed French oil painting mountain lake scene, painted in an expressive impasto technique on hardboard and presented in its original silver-grey distressed wood frame. The subject -- a broad alpine lake backed by snow-capped peaks, seen through a curtain of autumn foliage in amber, ochre and russet -- places this work firmly in the tradition of French plein-air landscape painting that flourished in the mid-twentieth century, when amateur and semi-professional artists frequented the Alpine and pre-Alpine lake districts of Savoie and the Dauphine, capturing seasonal light with energetic, loaded brushwork.

The composition has a natural warmth: branching trees frame the upper corners like a theatrical curtain, drawing the eye down to the glittering water and the layered blue-grey mountains beyond. The sky is worked in thick, swirling strokes of white and pale blue that give the painting genuine atmosphere. In the lower-right corner the artist has signed in dark red paint; the initials appear as "LF" or "bF" -- clearly legible in the photos, though the full name remains unresolved. The palette and handling are confident and consistent throughout, suggesting a practiced hand. Framed, this french oil painting mountain lake would sit easily in a living room, a study or a hallway alongside natural linen, aged wood and quiet earth tones.

Condition and patina consistent with age. The distressed silver frame shows light wear and some paint loss at the corners; the painted surface itself appears clean and intact with no visible restoration.

Overall framed size approx. 13.2 in wide x 11.3 in high (33.5 x 28.7 cm); canvas/board size approx. 10.5 in wide x 8.7 in high (26.7 x 22 cm).
