French Oil Painting Flowers Bouquet Signed C. Sirgue Ornate Frame 03112615

French oil painting flowers bouquet signed

Signed in the lower right corner with the clear hand of C. Sirgue, this French oil painting flowers bouquet signed composition belongs to a tradition of intimate floral still-life work that flourished across France in the mid-twentieth century, when provincial painters filled local salons and family dining rooms with warm, abundantly arranged flower studies. Painted on board in oil, it depicts a rounded green glass vase overflowing with daisies, blue cornflowers, orange and yellow chrysanthemums, a red rose, pink lupins and scattered wildflowers, all set against a warm amber-and-ochre ground that gives the whole image a soft, luminous glow.

The brushwork is confident and direct, with visible impasto on the petals that gives the flowers a pleasing tactile presence. A single fallen bloom rests on the tabletop beside the vase, a classic compositional touch. The carved ornate frame is painted white with a distressed finish, showing warm russet wood beneath the gesso in a way that feels deliberate and charming rather than worn-out -- very much at home in a French country, cottage or eclectic interior. The back of the painting is covered in burlap secured within the frame by small metal clips, consistent with mid-century French workshop practice.

Condition and patina consistent with age. The frame shows natural distressing and some paint loss along the edges, all of which adds to its character; the painted surface itself appears clean and undamaged.

Framed size: approx. 17.8 in wide x 14.8 in high (45.2 x 37.5 cm). Canvas size: approx. 13.8 in wide x 10.6 in high (35 x 27 cm).
