French Champagne Ice Bucket

A polished French champagne ice bucket bearing the embossed name Mauler & Cie, a Champagne house long associated with the sparkling wines of the Neuchatel region. Cast in chrome-finished aluminium, the seau a champagne -- the classic French champagne ice bucket found on the tables of brasseries and grand cafes throughout the mid-twentieth century -- this piece carries that unmistakable blend of utility and elegance that defined French hospitality culture of the era.

The bucket is well proportioned and satisfying in the hand, with two sets of ridged rings encircling the body at the top and base, lending it a quietly Art Deco sensibility. A pair of looped ring handles sit on either side, perfectly functional and adding an appealing industrial charm. The name Mauler & Cie is embossed in bold relief on the exterior and is also legible on the interior wall -- a nice detail that speaks to the care of the original manufacture. On a bar cart, a sideboard or a kitchen counter, it works equally well as a wine or flower vessel today as it did chilling bottles decades ago.

Condition and patina consistent with age. The base shows light surface scratches, and the interior has the expected dulling of a well-used piece; the exterior retains a warm, polished shine overall.
