French Ironstone Soup Plates
This set of six French ironstone soup plates originates from the respected Salins pottery, renowned for quality ceramics throughout the 19th century. Each plate displays the Louis XVI garlands pattern, characteristic of neoclassical French design traditions.
The decorative motifs feature hand-applied garland designs in deep blue pigment against creamy white ironstone ceramic. The botanical scrollwork and chain-like border patterns reflect the refined aesthetic associated with Louis XVI style decoration. The Salins pottery mark appears on the reverse of each plate, confirming authentic French manufacture.
Each soup plate measures 24cm in diameter (9.5 inches), making them suitable for traditional French table service. The ironstone construction shows good preservation considering their 19th-century age. The Terre de Fer marking indicates the earthenware composition typical of French industrial pottery from this period.
These French ironstone soup plates would complement collections of French ceramics or period table settings. The Louis XVI garland pattern represents an enduring style in French decorative arts.
