French Ironstone Plates
This set of six dinner plates originates from the Salins pottery works in France, dating to the 19th century. These French ironstone plates showcase the Louis XVI garland pattern that reflects neoclassical design principles of the period.
Each plate displays garland motifs executed in black transferware technique against white ironstone. The rim features decorative swags of leaves and ribbons arranged in a continuous border pattern. The Salins pottery mark appears on the reverse, confirming their French manufacture, with variations in stamps typical of period production methods.
The plates measure 24.3cm in diameter, equivalent to 9.5 inches, making them standard dinner plate size. The ironstone construction provides durability while maintaining the refined aesthetic characteristic of French ceramic production. Minor wear consistent with age and use may be present as expected in 19th century ceramics.
These plates represent French neoclassical ceramic artistry and would complement formal dining settings or serve as collectible examples of Salins pottery production.
