French Horse Trophy
This authentic French horse trophy plaque represents a fascinating piece of equestrian sporting history from 1952. Awarded at the Concours Hippique de Limoges in Saint-Sernin, this competition award celebrates the rich tradition of French horse shows that were central to rural French culture in the mid-20th century.
The oval-shaped metal plaque displays raised lettering in French, clearly stating "Prix Cpt Saint-Sernin, 3e Serie, 3e Prix" indicating this was a third prize award in the third series competition. The weathered red painted finish with worn edges demonstrates authentic age and use, while the decorative border and typography reflect the craftsmanship typical of French agricultural awards from this period.
Measuring approximately 18.5cm x 12.2cm (7.3" x 4.8"), this French horse trophy shows honest wear consistent with its 70+ year age. The original mounting hole at the top remains intact, and the visible wear patterns speak to decades of display. The raised lettering remains clearly legible despite the surface patina.
An excellent addition to any collection of French sporting memorabilia or equestrian antiques, this piece would display well in a study, stable office, or vintage sports collection.
