French Horse Prize Medal

This authentic French horse prize medal from the Societe Hippique Francaise in Bordeaux represents a significant piece of equestrian competition history from 1952. Awarded at a prestigious agricultural horse show, the medal honors the recipient of the Prix de la Gascogne fourth prize, reflecting France's deep-rooted tradition of equestrian competitions in the Gascony region.

The medal displays raised lettering against a red enamel background, clearly stating "SOCIETE HIPPIQUE FRANCAISE BORDEAUX 1952" along the top curve and "PRIX DE LA GASCOGNE 4e PRIX" in the center. The construction appears to be bronze or brass with decorative scrollwork at the top, featuring an attachment ring for display or wearing. The oval form shows typical mid-20th century French trophy craftsmanship with pronounced dimensional lettering.

Measuring 13.5cm x 9.5cm (5.3" x 3.7"), this substantial piece exhibits authentic age-related patina throughout the metal surfaces. The red enamel background shows some wear consistent with its 70-year age, while the raised lettering remains clearly legible. The bronze or brass material has developed the characteristic patina expected of genuine period pieces.

This French horse prize medal would make a distinguished addition to collections focused on equestrian history, French agricultural heritage, or vintage sporting memorabilia from the post-war period.
