French Enamel Pitcher

A classic French enamel pitcher of the type produced in France throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, used daily in households for carrying and pouring water. This French enamel pitcher displays the characteristic tall, tapering conical form associated with French enameled metalware, with a wide flared spout and a rounded loop handle riveted at the neck and shoulder.

The enamel coating is a muted steel blue, applied over a pressed steel body and fired to a glossy finish. The exterior shows two raised horizontal bands encircling the neck, a detail typical of French production from this era. The handle is enameled in the same blue tone and curves smoothly from the neck to the upper body. Visible wear is consistent with age and honest use: chips to the enamel appear along the rim edge and at the spout, with additional losses and dark spots to the body and base perimeter. Rust is present along the base rim where the enamel has worn through, as clearly visible in the photos. The interior retains its enamel lining. The condition is used and aged, which is typical and expected for a piece of this vintage.

The pitcher measures approximately 37cm tall (14.6"), based on the seller's stated dimension. Width across the base is estimated at approximately 16cm (6.3") from the photos.
