Mauviel, founded in 1830 in Villedieu-les-Poeles in Normandy, the town long considered the copper-working capital of France, has supplied professional kitchens and discerning home cooks for generations. This French copper saucepan, a casserolle a queue in the French tradition, is a classic example of the thick-gauge copper that made the region famous, lined in tin and fitted with a cast iron handle secured by copper rivets in the manner of professional French kitchen equipment.

The exterior glows with that warm, burnished rose-copper tone that makes these pieces as pleasing on a kitchen shelf as over a flame. The long iron handle curves elegantly upward in the style associated with serious French batterie de cuisine, and the riveted bracket is solid and well constructed. The tin lining, now well seasoned with age, shows the honest character of a pan that has seen real use in a French kitchen.
