Stamped clearly on the exterior, this French copper gratin pan bears the maker's mark of Girod and Cellier, a hardware and kitchenware merchant based in Aix-les-Bains, Savoie. Dating most likely to the late 19th or early 20th century, this type of wide, shallow copper pan was standard equipment in professional and domestic French kitchens for gratin dishes, braised vegetables, and oven-finished preparations. The Girod and Cellier stamp is legible in an oval cartouche, confirming its provincial French commercial origin.

The pan is constructed from copper with a tin lining on the interior.
