French Copper Jam Pan Villedieu

Made in Villedieu-les-Poeles, the Norman town long recognized as France's center of copper craftsmanship, this French copper jam pan Villedieu carries a stamped mark on its base reading "SPECIALE VILLEDIEU" with what appears to be an additional word above — a mark associated with quality copper production from that region. Villedieu-les-Poeles has produced hammered copper cookware for centuries, and confiture bassines of this type were standard kitchen equipment in French households through the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The basin is hand-hammered copper, showing visible concentric hammer marks across the interior floor and walls — consistent with traditional craftsmanship from that region. The exterior has developed a warm, darkened patina over decades of use. Two cast iron handles are riveted to the rim with copper rivets, a construction detail clearly visible in the close-up photos; the iron shows its own heavy oxidation and surface texture consistent with age. Four raised copper studs are visible just below the rim on the inner wall, spaced evenly around the circumference. The interior shows some green verdigris spotting and surface residue, as expected on unrestored copper of this age. A few white residue marks are visible on the exterior.

The seller states dimensions of 40cm diameter by 14cm height, with a weight of 3.1kg. Converted, this measures approximately 15.7" in diameter by 5.5" in height. The weight confirms substantial gauge copper construction typical of professional-grade French confiture pans.
