French Copper Oval Fish Pan

A French copper oval fish pan of the type long associated with professional and domestic French kitchen use, this piece carries a stamped maker's mark reading "MADE IN FRANCE" alongside a circular stamp that includes "AVIGNON," identifying it as originating from or sold through a coppersmith or retailer based in Avignon, France. The French copper oval fish pan form was traditionally designed for cooking whole fish on the stovetop, its elongated oval shape accommodating large fillets or full fish without breaking.

The exterior retains its warm copper tone, showing honest patina consistent with regular use and age. The interior is lined with tin, now well-worn and displaying the characteristic dark grey, matte surface of aged tinning with visible scratch marks from utensil use. The brass handle is cast in the classic French style, flat and tapering with an oval hanging loop at the end, secured to the pan body with a copper rivet.
