Vintage French Colonial Africa School Map Educational Poster 20082622

French Colonial Africa School Map

A double-sided French colonial Africa school map produced for classroom use, titled "L'Afrique Noire" on both sides. Published at a scale of 1:6,000,000 by Cooperation Pedagogique Nalliers (Vienne), this is a genuine period educational wall chart depicting French West Africa (Afrique Occidentale Francaise) and French Equatorial Africa (Afrique Equatoriale Francaise) as they existed under French colonial administration, placing it firmly in the pre-independence era, most likely the 1950s.

Side one presents a physical and political map with elevation shading ranging from white (0 to 500m) through graduated pink to dark brown (above 2000m), marking colonial capitals such as Dakar, Brazzaville, and Leopoldville, alongside a small inset showing population density. Side two shows vegetation zones and agricultural resources, using a colour-coded system distinguishing desert, steppe, savane, foret, and marecage, with annotations indicating regional produce including Arachides, Coton, Boeuf, Moutons, Caoutchouc, and Bois. Red cursive lettering labels key resources directly on the map surface. Both sides retain strong colour with only minor age-related wear consistent with classroom handling.

The poster measures approximately 90cm x 75cm / 35.4" x 29.5", a standard large-format wall chart size suited for display. The sheet is printed on thick paper stock and shows light surface creasing along fold lines but remains fully intact with no tears or significant losses visible.

A documented piece of French colonial-era cartography, this map holds genuine interest for collectors of vintage educational ephemera, post-war French print, African history, and cartographic art. It displays well framed or mounted as a period graphic document.
