French Champagne Ice Bucket
Embossed boldly around its midsection, the name "MAULER & Cie" identifies this handsome French champagne ice bucket as the product of a Champagne-region house with a long tradition of sparkling wine production in Burgundy. Spun from aluminum, the seau a champagne -- as these wine coolers are called in French brasserie culture -- was a fixture on the tables of bistros and grand restaurants across France from the mid-twentieth century onward, keeping bottles of Champagne or still wine at the right temperature throughout a meal.
The bucket carries a classic silhouette: gently tapered walls, a rolled lip, and two sets of triple ribbed bands -- one near the top, one near the base -- that add rigidity and visual rhythm in equal measure. A pair of loose ring handles sit on either side, practical for lifting and pouring. The lettering is raised directly from the metal, clean and graphic, in a style that reads as confidently mid-century. On a bar cart, a kitchen shelf, or used actively as a wine cooler for entertaining, it brings an easy, unfussy French character to any setting.
Condition and patina consistent with age. Light surface scratching is visible on the base and interior, and the exterior shows the soft, matte warmth that polished aluminum develops over decades of use -- all of it honest and expected on a working piece of this era.
Diameter is approximately 7.9 in (20 cm).
