French Champagne Ice Bucket

Besserat de Bellefon is a well-established Champagne house based in Ay, in the Marne region of France, and this French champagne ice bucket was produced as a promotional piece for use in restaurants, brasseries and hotel bars. Spun aluminium ice buckets of this type were widely used across French hospitality venues from the 1950s through the 1970s, and branded examples such as this one are now actively collected as vintage bar accessories and French advertising memorabilia.

The bucket is cast and spun from polished aluminium, with a classic flared rim and a stepped, ribbed lower body — three horizontal ridges encircle the base section, a detail typical of mid-century French metalwork. On each side, a decorative ring handle is mounted through a cast aluminium grape-and-vine-leaf medallion, a motif directly referencing the vineyards of Champagne. The front panel carries the original enamelled black label with gold and white typography reading "Champagne Besserat de Bellefon" — the label remains well adhered with only minor edge wear consistent with age and use. The interior shows surface oxidation and light scratching typical of a working piece. The base is unscribed and shows normal wear from use.
