French ceramic tureen
Dating from the traditional pottery region of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in northern France, this French ceramic tureen showcases the area's renowned earthenware craftsmanship. Argenton production represents the regional heritage of fine tableware manufacturing that flourished in this historic pottery center.
The cream-colored earthenware displays an intricate dark teal floral pattern featuring roses and botanical motifs. Transfer-printed decoration creates detailed borders around the rim and base, with matching designs on both the bowl and fitted lid. The classical form includes two side handles and a pedestal base, topped with an oval knob for easy serving.
Measuring 22cm in diameter by 12.5cm in height without handles or lid (8.7" x 4.9"), this serving vessel shows typical signs of age-appropriate wear consistent with vintage tableware. The glazed surface maintains good overall condition with the decorative pattern clearly defined throughout.
This covered serving dish would enhance any collection of French provincial ceramics or serve as functional tableware for formal dining occasions.
