French Blue Transferware Bowl

A generously sized French blue transferware bowl in cream-toned earthenware, made by Longchamp, the respected French faience manufacturer that produced refined table and kitchen ceramics from its Burgundy workshops beginning in the late nineteenth century. Transfer-printed in the classic blue-on-cream palette, this style of bowl was a staple of the French bourgeois household, used daily for everything from morning cafe au lait to salads and fruit at the table.

Four distinct botanical motifs are printed across the interior and exterior: two full-blown roses with detailed stippled petals, a loose peony spray, and a delicate sprig of bellflowers, all rendered in a cool slate blue that reads as graphic and quietly elegant. The cream glaze carries the warm ivory tone typical of Longchamp earthenware, and the broad, gently sloping form gives the bowl a satisfying presence whether set on a kitchen shelf, used as a fruit bowl, or placed at the center of a farmhouse table. A piece equally at home in a collected blue-and-white display or in everyday use.

Condition and patina consistent with age. There is light wear and minor glaze loss along a small section of the rim, visible in the photos, and fine crazing across the glaze surface as expected for a piece of this period.

Approx. 13.4 in diameter x 3.9 in high (34 x 10 cm).
