French Apothecary Glass Bottles
A set of four French apothecary glass bottles, almost certainly sourced from a pharmacy or laboratory context, represents a distinctive category of 19th to early 20th century utilitarian glassware. Three of the four French apothecary glass bottles retain their original round ball glass stoppers, ground-fit to the neck, which is characteristic of pharmaceutical and chemical storage vessels from this period.
All four bottles are made from clear blown glass, with visible minor surface irregularities and slight variations in wall thickness that confirm hand-production rather than modern moulding. The two larger bottles have a tall cylindrical body with a gently rounded shoulder and short narrow neck; the two smaller examples share a similar form but in reduced proportions. One bottle, the smallest of the set, lacks its stopper and has a wider rolled lip finish typical of dispensary ware. Internally, all four show residue deposits and light hazing consistent with age and prior use for storing chemical or pharmaceutical compounds. This wear is expected and authentic. No chips, cracks or repairs are noted on the exteriors.
Dimensions as stated by the seller: two larger bottles at 21.5cm / 8.5" height each, two smaller at 13.5cm / 5.3" height each. Body diameter of the larger bottles is estimated at approximately 9cm / 3.5" based on the photos.
These four bottles work well as a grouped shelf display, particularly in apothecary-style interiors, home offices or bathroom settings. They are also sought after by collectors of antique pharmacy and laboratory glassware. Sold as a lot of four.
